Scientific Program
The conference will comprise 21 lectures (30 minutes, including discussion) delivered by invited leading scientists and 19 other oral communications (20 minutes, including discussion) and a poster session with 15 presentations. Optional field trip to Big Island of Hawai'i There will be mini-exhibition spaces available for organizations wishing to exhibit hardware, software, products, services and literature relating to the theme of the conference. Please contact by e-mail the Secretariat at georaman@soest.hawaii.edu or the conference Chair at sksharma@soest.hawaii.edu about your space requirements. Audiovisual Instructions for Speakers Audiovisual equipment for oral presentations includes an overhead projector for transparencies and a LCD projector for electronic presentations. Participants who want to use electronic presentations should note that LCD projector usage entails some risk of unforeseen hardware or software problems. Please put your PowerPoint presentation on a CD-ROM and label it with the speaker’s name and the day and time of your presentation. It should be turned in at least 40 minutes before the start of the session in which you are speaking. Presenters should verify that the CD can be run on a Microsoft Windows 2000 operating system with Microsoft PowerPoint 2000. Please be sure that all graphics are embedded in the presentation file and that standard fonts such as Times New Roman, Arial and Courier are used. If you wish to use your own notebook PC, you must ensure compatibility with the LCD projector at least 40 minutes before the start of the session. Posters Size: 44" x 44" (maximum) Posters will be displayed on free-standing, grey or white display boards. Make sure your work is mountable with push pins. We will supply the push pins. Posters can be put up on Monday at 8 am and should be taken down before Thursday at 4 pm. There will be a poster session on Tuesday afternoon when presenters can explain their posters.
