Field Trips
Southeast O'ahu Field Trip We will be traveling by bus to approximately 7 sites to view the geology of Southeast O'ahu. We will include stops to talk about the Ko'olau shield volcano, erosion (both gradual and catastrophic), and rejuvenated activity (the Honolulu volcanic series). We won't be going on any long hikes but here and there we will get out of the bus and walk a hundred meters or so -- sometimes on trails, sometimes not. Tennis shoes are probably better than sandals for this. The main things that you need to bring are sun and rain protection (it won't be a surprise if we have to deal with both on the same trip). This means a good hat, sunscreen, and a rain jacket. Lunch and soft drinks will be provided but you may want to bring a bottle of water along. A few of our stops have restrooms. Schedule
